I Don’t Want to Go to School by Stephanie Blake

Cindy: My sentiments exactly! I Don’t Want to Go to School! (Random House, 2009) I love my job, but the week before school starts, when the weather always turns its most glorious, it’s hard to say goodbye to summer vacation. Simon the Super Rabbit says “No Way” to his parents’ variety of attempts to get him excited about his first day of school and readers will gleefully join in the refrain. He spends a fretful night being scared and not scared and scared again until he wears out his lamp. When the big day finally arrives, he enjoys school so much he doesn’t want to go home (who wouldn’t if you got chocolate mousse in the cafeteria–the book was first published in France). If I could trade my four days of professional development for the activities in Simon’s kindergarten day, I’d probably feel the same way!
Lynn: Now that I take care of my grandsons and work from home, I have much more mixed feelings about this back to school stuff! The idea of more time to work unassisted by 5-year-olds is enticing but I still share a lot of Cindy’s feelings! The twins, however, are counting the days. They are excited about school starting and biggest reason seems to be that they get to eat lunch at school this year. I hate to disillusion them but chocolate mousse is NOT on the menu at their school.
