Cindy and Lynn: As many families gather together and are reminded to give thanks for the good things in their lives, we at Bookends would like to offer our list of things we are grateful for and wish to celebrate.  In our rushed and harried world it is easy to focus on complaints and we think it is important to balance our attitude with a healthy dose of gratitude:

• For publishers who make so many new books available to us for preview. We couldn’t do this as easily without you.
• For publication dates prominently displayed on the spines of advance reader copies to help us sort our stacks.
• For the inclusion of the specific art medium and creation process that is now included with the publication data in many picture books–it helps educate us readers and reviewers.
• For authors and illustrators who take risks and write and illustrate outside the box.
• For authors and publishers with a sense of humor.  We missed blogging this book in time for Halloween, but if you have not seen Dick and Jane and Vampires, (Grosset & Dunlap, 2010) do look it up. What a hoot.

Cindy: For my patient blog partner, Lynn, who has helped me through a tough fall and kept the blog afloat when my reading quantity flagged. And for my family and good friends for their tireless support. It’s good to be so well loved. And this week I visited friend Mary Cotton’s 2nd grade classroom and I want to go back to 2nd grade so I can have an energetic teacher like Mary and also do crafts. It was paperbag turkey day! There’s nothing like an elementary school hallway for art appreciation, and for bringing back fond memories of the good ol’ days.

Lynn: Like all of my lists, the list of things I’m grateful for is too long for the space allotted but here’s two of the most important:

I’m especially grateful for my wonderful family and friends.   They keep me young in spirit, trying new things and still proficient at games of dodge ball, crazy eights, legos and drop-the-stuffed animal-off the-banister!

I’m grateful that I am still passionate about books and reading and being able to share that passion.
